Bone Broth Recipe
Check out the quick tips video here
I LOVE my bone broth recipe and as it turns out, it is helpful when you want to heal a leaky gut.
What Is Leaky Gut and How Do I know If I have It?
By now, you might be asking yourself , what is “leaky gut” and how do I know If I have it? If you have ever had a medication, conventional food, exposed to gas exhaust fumes, paint fumes, smoke, guess what, your gut has been compromised. So, the likely answer is “YES” you have a leaky gut. So keep reading to learn an easy way to support yourself.
If you have a leaky gut, the food you eat takes a detour and seeps out through those microscopic pinholes in your intestinal tract and into your bloodstream. That means the particles of food, toxins and bacteria leak into your body and cause systemic inflammation which is not fun. Trust me I had a leaky gut for years. Symptomatically, I had chronic inflammation, arthritis pain and other mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and stress. Your Gut health is directly related to your brain health. So, keep a healthy gut with the right levels of bacteria, collagen, nutrients and more, and you will be mentally acute with stamina too! Some say they have a better sense of humor, but I am not sure that is accurate.
The collagen in the bone broth supports sealing up those little pinholes that permeate the gut lining. When food is traveling through our intestinal tract, it is best when it goes straight through.
You can purchase boxed bone broth, but I am not a big fan because I prefer how good it tastes when I make it from scratch at home. This is easy, cheaper, and delicious. You set it and forget about it.
Why Avoid The Chemicals In The Food & Water Supply?
Those that know me, know that I am a purist. What does that mean exactly? It means that I like to cook and eat ingredients that are free from chemicals. Synthetic man-made chemicals are often stored in our fat cells and will manifest in the future as dis-ease in the body.
You may not be sick “today” from eating foods and drinking water laden with chemicals. But, exposing the human body (and the pet body) with chemicals will result in fatigue, skin issues, a variety of conditions that ultimately mean that you have a shortened life span, not to mention that the quality of life is low. Want my great recipe, the details are below.
Let’s get this party started!
What you need:
- 6-quart Crock Pot
Organic Ingredients include:
- 3 pounds of Chicken Bone Backs (others use necks, wings and feet) or Beef Bones
- 6 Pork Bones (no meat) – I save the ribs and put them in the freezer until I am ready to use them (pork ribs give the soup a delicate taste!)
- ½ teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt – mineral dense
- 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 medium Parsnips
- 1 large onion – quartered
- 6 cloves of garlic – More if you are a garlic lover like me
- Handful of Basil leaves
- 1 radish – quartered
- 1 Leek – chopped
- 1 Red Onion – quartered
- Options: Carrots, celery
You can use any variation of this recipe and make it your own. The key ingredients are the bones and the apple cider vinegar. The ACV extracts the collagen from the bones which is how it provides healing properties to the intestinal tract.
Place all ingredients in a 6-quart capacity slow cooker. Add the filtered water. Click Here for information on filtered water.
Important: Simmer for 36–48 hours.
We are cooking low and slow! This method gives time to for all the nutrients to be released into your broth.
After the 48 hours, unplug the slow cooker, and allow the broth to cool down completely. Remove the solids from the broth and enjoy.
Ways to Enjoy!
You can enjoy the broth on its own in a tea or coffee cup.
You can add miracle noodles or rice to the broth as pictured below.
And, you can add other organic meet and veggies and make a meal.
I often like to have a small cup of broth before any meal.
Use your chicken bone broth within a week or freeze up to three months.
Enjoy!
